The 2013 New Taipei City National Metal Crafts Competition organized by the Gold Museum is an important metal crafts biennale. The Gold Museum began accepting applications for the competition in March, 2013. In two categories (Jewelry and Objects), a total of 281 entries were submitted. After two rounds of evaluation and heated debates among the judges, 18winning entries (2 Gold Award, 2 Silver Award, 2 Bronze Award, and 12 Merit Award) are selected and exhibited to demonstrate the strength of Taiwan metal craft art.
The Gold Museum also invites all judges to display their works in this exhibition in order to offer the general public both local and global perspective on creativity and limitless potential of metal craft art. International jurors are Mary Lee Hu and Kyunhee Hong. Mary Lee Hu is an American metal artist unmistakably known for her exquisite woven wire works. Kyunhee Hong, professor of the Department of Metal Art and Design at the Hongik University in South Korea, is recognized by her artwork of organic conception and modern abstract and succinct presentation. Both of their works are collected by some of the world’s most famous museums. The local judges participating in the exhibition are Wang Mei-Jen, Beatrice Chiang, Lu Hsueh-Fen, Mimi Yu, Lih-Luen Aaron Jou, Ke Chi-Huei, Hsu Mei-Ying, Kang Li-Ying, Chen Yung-Wang, Yang His-Hsia, Chao Tan-Chi, and Sandra Lu (in Chinese surname stroke order).
